ACA-5, a proposed measure to repeal CA Prop 209, which ended Affirmative Action in CA in 1996. Prop 209 was a devastating blow to structural reform and the push for racial equality in higher education. ACA-5 can set things back on the right track. If it is passed by the State Senate it will become a ballot measure in the November 2020 election.
ACA-6, is a measure that would restore voting rights to every person on parole in CA. It would reverse the practice of felony disenfranchisement, which is undemocratic and so often a symptom of discriminatory policing and incarceration. ACA-6 is now a CA ballot measure in the November 2020 election.
AB 2342, passed May 2020. This bill was designed to reduce recidivism in CA by incentivizing persons on parole to pursue educational and vocational goals, and participate in rehabilitation programs for which they can earn reduced terms of supervision.
